Frequently Asked Questions about KeyScrambler

1. Trouble Shooting Tips

  • Q: KeyScrambler is showing a red popup saying "Encryption module error", what should I do?

A: Run the KeyScrambler installer again and reboot your computer. This problems only happens to some users if KeyScrambler is uninstalled and then immediately installed again. We're working on a fix.
  • *Q: I have McAfee anti-virus and I got a warning message when I installed KeyScrambler. Afterwards, KeyScrambler displays an encryption module error. What should I do?

A: (*This problem is fixed in KeyScrambler 1.0.6 and later versions.) McAfee anti-virus can prevent the KeyScrambler installer from completing successfully. When presented with the warning dialog, simply click on "Trust this program" and "Ok". Then reinstall KeyScrambler and everything should work normally.
  • Q: I'm using the German edition of Microsoft Windows and after I installed KeyScrambler, my keystrokes are encrypted but not decrypted in the browser. What should I do?

A: If you're using Spybot - Search & Destroy on your computer and have the SDHelper browser plugin enabled, it interferes with KeyScrambler's decryption process. This problem does not occur in all editions of Windows. We're investigating it further. A temporary solution is to disable SDHelper. To do this, from within Spybot - S & D, select "Mode"->"Advanced mode", then select "Tools" in the toolbar on the left. Click on "Resident" and you should see two items listed under "Resident protection status" on the right. Uncheck the "Resident SDHelper" item. Restart Internet Explorer and KeyScrambler should be able to decrypt normally. (Our thanks to our user Frank for the temporary solution.)

2. About KeyScrambler

  • Q: Why do I need KeyScrambler?

A: Keyloggers are the fastest growing form of information theft on the Internet. They invade users' computers through viruses, worms, and other malware, which silently log keystrokes to steal usernames and passwords. The stolen information is then used to steal money and identity from the victims.

  • Q: I have anti-spyware and anti-virus software installed. Do I still need KeyScrambler?

A: Yes. There are hundreds of keylogging programs and new ones are appearing all the time. The anti-spyware and anti-virus programs may not be able to detect new viruses and worms because they have to be updated to recognize them. Also, the protective software works after the fact - they detect and remove the malware only after it is already in your computer - and therefore may not be able to stop theft in time. KeyScrambler, on the hand, protects all the time. It defeats all keyloggers by making your keystrokes indecipherable to spyware and bare eyes.

  • Q: Do I have to turn KeyScrambler on and off each time?

A: Not necessary. KeyScrambler is automatically enabled whenever you login to a web page. If you want to turn it off temporarily, you can click on Tools in the browser menu and select KeyScrambler. You can also use the hotkey combination (Ctr+Shift+k) to toggle it.

  • Q: What are differences between the Personal version and the Professional version of KeyScrambler?

A: The major difference is in the level of input protection. Whereas KeyScrambler Personal encrypts keystrokes of your username(s) and password(s), KeyScrambler Professional encrypts keystrokes of all your input, be it a credit card number or a whole page of email you type out on the Internet. We recommend the pro version to individuals and companies whose communications contain sensitive information they wish to safeguard against keyloggers.
