Frequently Asked Questions about Using Monechron

1. Printing checks

Q: My printer doesn't print on wallet size checks. Can I still use Monechron to print out checks?

A: Yes. You can use our EZPrint, a simple device, to help your printer handle wallet size checks. Click on the Preferences (Elephant) icon and then on the EZPrint button in the lower right corner to get a copy. Follow the instructions there. Or you can purchase stock printer checks, which are available online and in most office supply stores.

Q: My printer messed up the check. How can I show this one as deleted in the transaction record?

A: Simple. Click on the Accounts icon and then on Register. Select the check and click on Void.

Q: What should I do if I forgot to put a check in my printer and clicked the print button? Or, what if my printer didn't print on my check but on the paper in the tray. What do I do now?

A: Click on the Accounts icon. In Show, select from the dropdown list All Uncleared Checks. The misprinted check will appear in the list. Select it and click on Print. This time make sure your check is properly positioned in the printer.

Q: I put in the incorrect amount when writing a check and printed it out. What should I do?

A: Click on the Accounts icon and then on Register. Select the incorrect check you wrote and click on Void. Then you can write a new check.

2. Finding past transactions

Q: I know I wrote a check to a particular payee but forgot the amount. What's the easiest way to find out?

A: Three clicks: First, click on the Find icon and select the time period in which you wrote the check. You do this by clicking on Time Period and selecting from the dropdown list. Second, click on the small box before Description and select from the list the payee you want. Third, click on the Find button and the check you're looking for should be among the listed transactions.

Q: What is the easiest way to find out the total payment to a particular payee in the last year?

A: First, click on the Find icon and select the year from the dropdown list under Time Period. Second, click on the small box before Description and select the payee you want from the list. Third, click on the Find button and the total transactions and the amount paid to the payee last year will display.

3. Using Web Scout™

Q: I haven't used Web Scout for about three or four months. When I just used it, a balance adjustment was added to the list of transactions. What does it mean?

A: As you know, Monechron keeps a record of every transaction you've entered manually or through Web Scout. If you haven't used Web Scout or entered your transactions manually for several months, some of your earlier transactions most likely will have dropped out of the bank's online history, because banks' websites usually maintain a record of only the last two or three months of transactions. Therefore, Monechron suggests an adjustment that equals the amount of the unavailable transactions. You can either accept the adjustment or not accept it. If not, you can enter  the missing transactions manually and mark them "cleared" in Pay & Record, relying on your hard-copy bank statements for that period. By the way, if you use Web Scout™ monthly, there won't be any adjustment (see User Manual 3.2.2 Balance adjustment).

4. Other features

Q: I hit the Don't Show button by accident and one of my accounts disappeared from the Accounts screen. How do I get it back?

A: Don't panic. The account isn't gone; it's merely not showing. Click on Undo and select the account you want to restore. Click on Restore and it'll reappear.

Q: Can I use Monechron to prepare my income tax returns?

A: Not entirely. You should use tax software or a tax accountant in conjunction with Monechron. As explained in the Tutorials, all your transaction information is saved in Monechron's transaction register. However, Monechron displays income and expenses on a cash basis, that is, it makes no distinction between different types of deposits. For example, you may put the money from selling stocks in your checking account and you may deposit your paychecks in the same checking account. Both may be taxable income, but of different kinds.
